for some reason, when i catch legends, poke and great balls work better than ultra balls. i ran out of pokeballs (20 ultra, 15 great, 20 poke) twice,when trying to catch articuno. then 3rd time i used one pokeball and it caght it.ONE F****** POKEBALL CAGHT IT!!! has this happened too you?
i remember one time when i caught dialga with a
POKEBALL!!
but i think it was just luck, because i had done many status problems to dialga like confuse, paralyse & lower defense & attack (with leer & charm).

greatball:1.5x chances
ultraball:2x chances
masterball:never misses
With Infernape I caught Dialga twice with only one Ultra Ball.Once in my cartridge once in a friend's.Also,I have done the same thing with Groudon with a Pokeball.I do not know why this happens,but it is very nice

It's just a coincidence. Ultraballs are better and dusk balls even better when in dark. Furthr more Status problems like Paralyze and Sleep help you, but lowering your opponent's attack will not make any difference.
i have only caught a legndary with a ultra ball once.
