It doesn't matter, if you exchange your Friend Codes found in your Pal Pad, you can trade online by going at the basement of any PokéCenter.

Key Items -> Pal Pad -> *yourname*'s Friend Code
If you don't have the Pal Pad, go to the basement of any PokéCenter, one of the ladies will give it to you.
