I just saw the formula the Pokemon games use for stats...how the hell do they expect me to understand it! Just look at it!

Consider a Level 78 Garchomp with the following IV's and EV's and an Adamant nature:

HP Attack Defense Speed Sp.Atk Sp.Def Total
Base stat 108 130 95 102 80 85 600
IV 24 12 30 5 16 23 110
EV 74 195 86 23 48 84 510

Its HP can be calculated as follows:
The Adamant nature raises Attack and lowers Special Attack. This means that when calculating the Attack stat, Nature = 1.1, and when calculating the Special Attack stat, Nature = 0.9. So this Garchomp's Attack stat will be:

And its Special Attack stat will be:

Its Speed stat, on the other hand, has no Nature multiplier, so it is calculated as:

In the end, this Garchomp's stats are as follows:
HP Attack Defense Speed Sp.Atk Sp.Def
Base stat 108 130 95 102 80 85
IV 24 12 30 5 16 23
EV 74 195 86 23 48 84
Total 289 280 193 172 135 171
Note that some numbers may be off by one due to rounding.

Who knew Pokemon was this complicated?
Players weren't intended to know the formula at all actually.
I see why there are fanatics obsessed with these formulas. They are so complicated. And they say pokemon is for little kids! Not with that stuff!
Well it is actually not that complicated and it's nevertheless interesting for math-tech freaks like me or some other people Toungue
Well guess what? I'm not a math genius. I may be in geometry in 8th grade but I don't get most of it. Anyway my point is that I'm not sure how people take the time to figure this out.
Actually, I don't know these formulas (although I know they exist), but I can't say thet it is complicated. Like Adk said I find all this interesting.
I guess so...now that I look at it again. They just looked really big and intimidating, so I couldn't imagine how people would remember this.
There's absolutely no reason to remember the formulas by heart. What you need to know if you're battling competitively is the result. It's much easier to remember that Adamant Salamence's max Attack is 405 and Jolly Aerodactyl's Speed is 394 than trying to calculate it with a formula. If you know the basics like how many EPs you need to max a stat or what the base stats of a Pokémon are, you're good to go math-wise and all you need to do is improve strategy-wise.
I just saw the formulas ( I had seen them before, but I didn't yesterday because I was on opera mobile). They are nowhere near complicated to me to be honest. Just some basic maths a 12 year old should be learning at school.
I get it now...its not that hard once you look at it for a while. I'm just impatient, and I like to figure things out fast. I feel really stupid now. Still, most kids my age couldn't figure that out at all.
daunting? yes
complex? not really, just basic multiplication and division

but you don't have to remember these, that's why I wrote the calculator Toungue
Oh right...thank you guys...
Don't feel bad for yourself Gir. I reacted the same way. So the plural of formula is formulae? Strange plural form. BTW the plural of cactus is cacti (i as in I am).

i as well use opera mobile. I have version 6. Any way back to the topic. How do i determine how many EVs my poke has if i did want to use this formulae.
You have to keep track manually.Wait a sec.....hey it's Dunsparce! Long time no see! Did you get Black/White? More importantly, did you train a Stunfrisk?
