Tell Congress to oppose S. 978, the new "Ten Strikes" bill. PLEASE.

Here they go again: Big business's lobbyists are launching another attack on Internet freedom. Senators are considering a "Ten Strikes" bill to make it a felony to stream copyrighted content -- like music in the background of a Youtube video -- more than ten times.

As the writers at TechDirt point out, under this bill you could go to jail for posting video of your friends singing karaoke:

The entertainment industry is freaking out about sites that embed and stream infringing content, and want law enforcement to put people in jail over it, rather than filing civil lawsuits.... We already pointed to one possibility: that people embedding YouTube videos could face five years in jail. Now, others are pointing out that it could also put kids who lip sync to popular songs, and post the resulting videos on YouTube, in jail as well.

That's right: Ten strikes and you could get jail time. Less than a month ago, the Hollywood industry magazine, Variety, reported, "Industry lobbyists pressed House members on Wednesday to pass legislation that would make illegal streaming of movies, TV shows and other types of content a felony...."

Damn it.
First of all, the title must show what the thread is about, sorry but it's not about gay crap, so I changed it.
Also, a link to the text of the bill would be cool, some may have never heard about it.

Anyway, although it doesn't concern me much as this is a bill only valid in the USA, it does look like a wrong way to fight against piracy. Reproduction of copyrighted material where no profit is made shouldn't be illegal under any circumstances. This affects not only the music industry but pretty much anything that can be copyrighted. Video walkthroughs of games would be illegal, soundtracks and trailers of games and movies, everything.
Perhaps congress just got so pissed at all those internet memes that they decided to do something about them...

I'm gonna get shut down! I'm a smaller version of GLaDOS! And the music that usually calms me isn't working.
(It's the music that plays when you look at your history in Spore.)

What am I going to do? I'm gonna get thrown to the scrap heap!!

@Ninjomewtwo: I can't find a link to it. I would've posted it if I had found it. If I DO find it, I will post it.

I think I can understand what the government is trying to do here, but they are doing it the wrong way
Its like I said, the government is SO tired of those internet memes. Imagine what you would be like if YOU had to put up with nyan cats EVERY SINGLE DAY and hearing about it and related media EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'd go crazy too.

This is for piracy. Not gay memes.
You're proving my point

Oops. EPIC EDITING FAIL.

The cat was supposed to be saying that the government was getting rid of piracy wrong, and at YOU was that this was for piracy. I FAILED.

Ironic, isn't it?

Please get back on topic.
Sorry. Anyways, like you, I don't think it is fair to pass this bill. But how can we stand up and do anything about it?
It doesn't seem good to me but do you think that even if it passes it will have any effect? I mean, will they chase all the suspects and arrest them or will the law exist just in the papers? Will they do anything to impose it or only claim afterwards that they did their best to fight internet piracy?

I'm questioning this cause there are already lots of laws etc about copyroght and piracy but the internet is still filled with pirate contect. And we keep downloading without consequences.
