I've been wondering why Swampert is a Standard Pokémon and why it is used so much in the metagame. And wether or not it is still a common sight in the DP metagame?
Because, it 's a very good starter(as Mudkip) and it has the awesome combination of Water-Ground types. It' only great weakness is against Grass type Pokemon.
It has very good defences and moves so it is ideal for Tank.In D/P it can also lay Stealth Rock and learn moves like Avalanche and Waterfall...
Swampert is very difficult to faint,even from grass attacks,due to high vigor and defences.Its attack is also high so he can make use of avalanche,waterfall and earthquake.

Nope, Grass attacks are x4. Swampert doesn't have good s.def, so you can kill it with an Energy Ball.
But with hp evs and possibly sassy he can survive.
And of course he survives unstabbed EB.
