As some of you may already know, Rick Astley managed to be in the list of nominees for MTV Europe Music Awards. The following, short article explains some stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rick Astley's MTV shock
Rick Astley is a shock nominee for Best Act Ever at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 'Never Gonna Give You Up' singer received his first ever nomination - 17 years after his last chart success - alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day, Tokio Hotel and U2.
Astley's surprise inclusion in the category - which is voted for by MTV viewers - comes less than a year after 25 million people were tricked into watching the video of Rick's biggest single 'Never Gonna Give You Up', which reached number one in 16 countries in 1987.
The promo was posted under the title of several other popular music artists on video sharing website YouTube, and the prank became known as 'Rickrolling'.
Speaking about Astley's inclusion in the awards, Richard Godfrey, MTV Europe Music Awards Senior Vice President, said: "The audience has spoken and MTV has been well and truly 'Rickrolled'." This surprise nomination truly demonstrates that the MTV Europe Music Awards is the most democratically selected Awards show there is.
"Rick's fans have obviously decided that he deserves recognition as a pop icon and no doubt they are determined to make sure he wins on the night. It'll be interesting to see if he comes out on top."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, as you may also already know, there's that Internet trend known as "Rickrolling". It's really easy to "Rickroll" somebody and really easy to be "Rickroll'd".
How is it done:
1. Somebody posts a link to a video, saying something like "OH MAH GAWD, HOTTEST CHIX ON THE INTERNETS IN THIS VID!!!11!"
2. Victim clicks on the link, waiting to see some hot chicks.
3. The video that pops is the music video of the song "Never Gonna Give You Up".
4. Victim just got "Rickroll'd".
5. The one who gave the link can shout "RICKROOOOOOOLL'D! BWAHAHAHAHA!" and laugh.
How to avoid getting Rickroll'd:
This is really difficult. The reason is simple. You just never know when a link to the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video will appear. However, there's still a way to avoid it! All you have to do is to learn by heart the YouTube links that have a "Rickroll" video behind them. Of course, that's kinda hard since there's not just one video but, that's the only way. Well... not the only one. Although I don't agree with it, there's this guide on the net telling you how to avoid getting "Rickroll'd".
Rick Astley for Best Act Ever:
Rick Astley is a nominee, ok. Now, he must win. Go here and then click on the "RickVoter". Leave this open in a background tab/window, and it'll keep voting for Rick. Please do it. For Rick. He must beat those stupid things that like to be called bands/singers (Tokio Hotel, Green Day and the rest).
