Hello people. As you know, our purplesurge chatroom on this site provides a way to chat instantly. However, we have been having lots of trouble with it. Since ops generally don't moderate it, the place sometimes is overrun with internet trolls that either hate pokemon, are looking for girls, or are guys pretending to be 13 year old girls who want to "cyber" with people. In fact, just a few weeks ago on the chat a person entered and kept on asking "what is a c*nt" like it was REALLY urgent he knew. When I told him "go ask your parents" he started RAGING on the chat like there was no tomorrow. And this type of stuff tends to happen every other day. I think we need to address this problem by either having ops on this site monitor the chat more often, or we need more chat ops. Please respond if you have any comments or concerns.
You can't do anything about it. It's not about not allowing trolls to troll, it's about not allowing people to chat. You cannot deprive people of their right to enter a chatroom. It may sound silly, but it's the truth.
You just ignore the trollers, or try to put some sense into their minds.
I've been trying to do just that, but it isn't easy. I'm not saying we shouldn't allow people to chat. What I'm saying is that we need our chat to be a better place FOR people trying to chat.
A common problem in the internet. There must be a balance that allows enough freedom to chat and enough rules to stop some people from being annoying. A site can't be like the Pentagon but neither like a no-rules imageboard.
If there's a big problem in LP's chat (I don't know what's actually going on, I never enter the chatroom), some more moderation may help.
well, there is usually 0 moderation, so undesirable people come and go as they please at times.

No chatroom software is better or more configurable than IRC, and that's an undeniable fact.
The problem with out chatroom is that there's a general lack of interest from the users, and therefore the operators see no point in investing any time in it. Given they'd have time to invest anyway.
If regulars like you two would all move the random discussions into the chatroom rather than the spam forums and started visiting it more often, then I'd be happy to set a couple of you as operators for the times us, admins, are unavailable.
Arty2, in case you haven't noticed, I'm in that chat room ALL DAY LONG. So I notice everything that goes on in there. I understand that most of our users don't have much interest in it, because I often see nobody there, but even so I do occasionally chat with people and then BAM some pokemon hater/ porn advertiser comes along and ruins our wonderful conversation. I'd go to Serebii's chat room, but the ops there HATE me for no adequately explored reason. So I constantly get kicked out for little to no reason, and then I just sit around bored in legendary_pokemon.
Giratina, you can't do anything about Trolls. I've seen what you do, you yell at them and stuff. Maybe if you actually ignored them, then you wouldnt have that big of a problem.

You know there's such a thing as actually ignoring them, or leaving the chat room
I DO use the ignore button, but you can bypass it by using memos. Which is what happened.
