I like to put the names of my friends, family and characters that I like, for exemple:
Jynx - Hermione (aren't they witches with... ah... strange hair?)
Raichu - Harry (Harry Potter has a lightning in his head and Raichu has a lightning in his tail...)
Blissey - Nanete (my mom's name! ^^ She loves pink.)
Minun - Leo (my brother's nickname. He's Minun, I'm Plusle.)
Skarmory - Marcelo (a friend of mine who loves Skarmories.)
Vileplume - Saria (a woman of The Book of Mormon.)
Milotic - Afrodite (the pisces gold knight.)
Kingdra - Ruto (the Sage of Water in Zelda's games)
Moltres - Ikki (the phoenix knight)
Etc.
The only name I really liked on my Pokemon is my Gengar's nickname: Deatheater!
i named my venusaur brute root. i got it from the first pokemon movie. i named my blaziken blaze, my charizard flame, my magmar maga lava,my plusle and minun be be and ce ce,my blissey eggy,my milotic lotimi,and my slowking slowqueen.
The only poké' I named was my Porygon2.
It was called ProgramX2, not really special, but it left a good taste in my mouth.
Maybe someone could get me a new one, as I restarted and won't rest till I got a shiny Porygon2 again!

Although it's been a while I last played with my games due to a busy life... I used to give star names to my team Pokemon. Some examples include Aldebaran, Betelguese, Altair, Vega, Zuben'Ubi, Faumalhaut etc
i nickname some of mine, but im not so fond of the ones that you get in in-game trades.
I gave a Pokémon Sapphire ROM to a friend of mine, and she named her Torchic "Fofinho"! (fofinho = cute, in portuguese)
I have named some of mine as well, but I actually takes a bit long to come up with names I really like.
My favorite so far is hotweiler for my Houndoom. Others are Forex for Sceptile, Eellusion for Milotic, Sphinxap for Manectric, while some I don't even recall atm.

In my opinion, a really good for a female Salamence is Saphira. That's how I named my Salamence after the Emerald restarting. And Arcanine's name changed to Eragon and Gengar's to Arya.

Which name should he give to his Ampharos? He has no idea.
dragonite named Draco. (its so hard to train from a dratini)
I think that Narya,Vilya and Nenya are good names for the three legendary dongs(personnaly,I would never change their names..)
