Favorite Pokemon: Dragonite
If the tournament doesn't start in a week in out of this. I have and other jobs to do you know i'm not gonna wait for this to begin
Alright, I agree. This has been dragged out a little longer than I had expected. I think I have an idea how I can get this to work with 12 people, so expect pairings by Monday.

The only way I can see this working is if 4 battlers get a first-round bye. Meaning, they don't need to battle in the first round. If we had seeds, like in a sports tourney, I would sort it by seed, but for now, 4 lucky battlers will get the bye.

you mean that the tournament will start on monday???
Why don't you just make 6 pairs with 2 battlers in each pair? In tournaments like these getting a "bye" is unfair in my opinion

Well, when the pairings go up the tourney begins, which will be, at the latest, on Monday. Remember, you have a week to do your battles.

I thought of that, but then you end up with 3 battlers in the end. I really don't like byes either, but if we wanted to avoid them, we would need 4 more people. I could do a point system, but that relies on participation and takes more time...

I also don't think byes are all bad. If your opponents does not practice regularly, they will be unprepared and may get smoked.

if you finaly go with the "bye" idea, then i suppose you'll do it in with a hat-and-draw thing....so i'd like not put me in there,i want to fight to get a spot on the next round
Why not go like this. Four groups of 3, and it goes all vs all in each group, 1 point for the winner, 0 for the loser, 2 players advance. That way, everybody gets to battle at least twice, and there are no byes. In case of a tie, those who advance depend on the number of Pokémon left after the match. For example, say I'm in the same group with Garam and Xaralampos. I beat Garam, with 4 remaining Pokémon, Xaralampos 6-0's my team and Garam beats Xaralampos with 1 Pokémon remaining. So, Xaralampos advances in the 1st place, I'm second and Garam is out.

As for the next round, we should be down to 8, so the single elimination thing is accomplished easily, w/o any byes. Imo, that's the best way to go.
@NM2- Wouldn't we just go by record if they are just battling once, just to simplify things? I also don't like point systems, but it works.

By that you mean?

My point is that if it ends in a classic 2-1-0 result, with one player beating the other two, it's clear who advances. But if it ends in a 1-1-1 result, we need a way to determine who continues, I just suggested that the remaining Pokémon is a good way. If you have a better one, it's ok, you choose.
Ninjomewtwo Wrote:My point is that if it ends in a classic 2-1-0...

That's impossible because we aren't battling ourselves.

Ninjomewtwo Wrote:By that you mean?

Like, I beat you and Garam in our matches, you lose to me and beat Garam, and Garam loses twice. I'd have a record of 2-0, your record is 1-1 and his is 0-2. You and I would advance. In the event all three are 1-1, I would need the logs to scour through the logs to figure who goes on.
Ok, we're saying the same thing. Toungue
By 2-1-0, I mean that you have 2 victories, I have 1 and Garam has 0. By 1-1-1, we all have one victory. I'm just suggesting that the choice of who advances is done in an objective way, such as by the number of remaining Pokémon, rather in a subjective one as judging who was a better battler by reading a log.
Well, I wouldn't read the log for opinionative reason, I would be reading to make sure people are honest about how many pokemon they had left.
I'm double posting so people know that they need to look here.
I'm going with NM2's idea and there will be 4 pools of 3 people. You have a week to battle the two other people in your group. The best two people in the group advance to the next round. In the event we have a 1-1-1 tie, I request you PM with how many Pokemon you KOed, not how many you have left. Use the honor system here people.

Here are the groups:
1. GeorgeSlayer , WetPaint, ExplorerAce
2. Geroge7, Ninjomewtwo, Xara-lampos
3. Crobar, Grovyle_Fan, Vespioxd
4. Garam, Esoitsalb, Chaos 714

Gogogo! First round is open until Monday the 19th!
uh oh i better make a team
