True, there are other ways to paralyze a pokemon, but are they as reliable? Good luck trying to paralyze Garchomp with a move that will miss half the time(Sand Veil says hi :)
The thing is, just like you mentioned, things can take it down if it goes for a specific move, in special conditions. You can't predict anything and you normally use two of your pokemon to halt it, one usually dieing.
I don't say it's unstoppable, but countering Garchomp isn't as simple as bringing sth in and stopping it.
Not all Garchomps are used in Sandstorm anyway.
Actually I remeber at least 80% of the Chomps being used with Hippo/T-Tar. And Sand Veil was the main reason for it to become Uber.
Even without Sandstorm, a 75 accurate move is no reliable way to stop sth that dangerous.
Almost every Garchomp I ever seen ran with Hippowdon/Tyrannitar, only fought one outside the sand. Most of the cheapo's also gave it Brightpowder regardless of the fact its a banned item for a reason.
Force Palm and such aren't 100% reliable, but paralysis isn't a requirement to kill it. Serene Grace users and Stun Spore work just fine with a Zoom Lens. Tangrowth did just fine, as he also creams Garchomp's sand-summoning buddies. Grass Knot hits all three very hard, or Hidden Power Ice if you can pick your IVs/get lucky. Beautiful counter. Zoom Lens mostly negates the the Sand Veil, and the only possible way to beat it is an absurd investment in Sp. Atk and Fire Blast/Ice Beam.
Celebi works just the same, except is deathly afraid of Tyrannitar. Thick Fat Hariyama covers Celebi very well, in typing and the fact its very effective against Tyrannitar and Scizor (just teach it Fire Punch). Or Machamp, it can't miss with No Guard and DynamicPunch's confusion will really make Garchomp mad.
Glaceon also handles most forms of Garchomp and Hippowdon, but Tyrannitar is going to destroy it. Once again, Hariyama or Machamp to cover Tyrannitar and Scizor.
Garchomp doesn't have a perfect counter like Scizor (got around 3 actually), but I honestly feel Salamence was, and still is, more powerful.
@Grovyle Fan: 75 accuracy isn't a reliable way to stop anything. Well, bar Machamp. No Guard breaks so many moves its almost funny. Grovyle is great though, I honestly know a guy that trained one to 100 on Ruby.
I can kill Garchomp with my life orbed Relicanth. And it was during a sandstorm caused by my T-Tar.Tested during the 1st Greek Tournament.
By any chance, does that Relicanth have the ability "rock head" and know the move "head smash"? Cuz that's what mine has, just with a wide lens for head smash.
As far as I tested a subpunch dusknoir or even an ice shard weavile are always able to counter garchomp.
In fact I cant see why it was considered "uber" and "impossible to counter"
In all fights I've had on pokemon online clients and the DS (quite many) these 2 pokemon beat garchomp to death ._.
