Legendary Pokémon

Charizard could be a Special or a Physical Sweeper. Making a combination of both (Mixed sweeper) si simply wrong and will work against one's strategy.
It's true that Charizard has many ways of defeating an enemy, but Ninetales can be as fast as him (if we consider that IVs, EVs and Nature are the same).
Having the *most powerful fire type attack* doesn't ensure a victory, especially when this attack has 2 main flaws: lower than 100% accuracy and recharging.

Ninetales is more of an annoyer, so it might not attack first but will give other Pokemon a hard time. And no, a properly trained Ninetales will not die after a single Eathquake, unless Charizard is trained as a Physical Sweeper, and has maximized his attack stat.

i guess your right about it being as fast as charizard. but in the official guide from nintendo power frlg, charizard(15) has a higher rating than ninetales(14), but even then arcanine has an even higher rating of 17. but then that really matters if they have a specific nature and which evs go to which stat.

And let us not forget the Ivs too... And the possible strategies with each pokemon.

Arcanine has good stats, as does Charizard, but Charizard has a larger movepool in overall, and can be both a Special or a Physical Sweeper.

Charizard2005 what did you decide, Charizard or Arcanine?
I think Arcanine would be the best choise!

Actually, I made Arcanine and now I'm making Charizard; he's still on the training stage. I have to say that even if Arcanine doesn't have a large movepool, he helped me out a lot in battles since he can beat tough Pokemon (Metagross) that can be a pain later in the game.

Charizard is easily better, but if you prefer to be different and surprising, go for Arcanine

there really is no better one. it is just the matter of taste and how you train it. i like char better b/c i think it has a wider movepool.

I think that in D/P both pokemon should be physical sweepers (flare drive/crunch/aerial ace) . Arcanine has better stats but charizard has sword dance and better movepool (outrage-shadow claw-rock slide)

even if arc is better I would definitely prefer char for he is teh awsomezorz

well, they both got reasonably more powerful, w/some new moves and the attack split. They both can learn solarbeam, charizard has air slash,and more , better physical moves for D-Dance Charizard, and arcanine has thunder fang and crunch is now physical. oh, and they both can learn Will-o-wisp.
