Sooner or later the DS will be dropped, 3DS being its successor. 3DS will be capable of playing old DS games though(same way it works with Wii-Gamecube).

And yes the games will be different, 3DS is a brand new console

It would have an entirely new name if it was entirely new. Since it's a DS with 3D,3DS seems appropriate.

Remember that DS stands for Dual Screens. The new handheld has Dual Screens as well, so it is still a DS.
