HP Attack Defense Sp.Atk Sp.Def Speed - Description
- Alakazam a very popular Psychic type Pokémon despite its horrible Defense and Hit Points. It excels in Speed and Special Attack which, along with his varied movepool, make him one of the best Special Sweepers around.
- Strategy against Alakazam
- Alakazam’s main weakness is his Defense which teamed with his low Hit Points mean an almost instant KO. However, Alakazam is extremely fast and is able to avoid most attacks targeted at it. Fast and powerful Pokémon like Aerodactyl are one of the best ways to turn the tables around. The use of Extremespeed is also considerably good, especially when STAB-ed.

Role #1: Special Sweeper
- Item Held
- Petaya Berry (Special Attack increases when Hit Points drop low)
- Nature
- Timid (+Speed –Attack)
- Effort Points
- 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
- Moveset
- Strategy
- This is one of the most usual Alakazam’s movesets seen around making use of Calm Mind to further boost its special stats, followed by the powerful Psychic attack and two of the element punches, mainly depending on the rest of your teams. I would recommend Ice and Thunder over Fire Punch. If you don’t like Calm Mind you could of course, replace it with the third elemental punch.
Role #2: Trickbander
- Item Held
- Choice Band (Powers up one move, which becomes the only usable one.)
- Nature
- Timid (+Speed –Attack)
- Effort Points
- 252 Speed, 129 Defense, 129 Special Attack
- Moveset
- Strategy
- This moveset is less common but it actually works. Use Trick to swap the Choice Band you are holding and follow up with either Encore or Disable, Encore being way more accurate. Be very careful when using this tactic! Using it against a Physical Sweeper would most probably mean suicide and you should always predict a switch after this. It would be best combined with Umbreon’s Mean Look and Baton Pass combo.

Training Grounds
This section is to advise you on the areas in which you can train for the acquisition of the Effort Points presented above. It is recommended you use 10 vitamins on the stat you desire to raise. Do not use vitamins on stats that require less than 100 Effort Points. Equip the Macho Brace on your Pokémon to speed up the process even more.

- Nature
- Mild, Modest, Rash or Quiet
- Contest Moveset
- Fire Punch [Beauty]
- Ice Punch [Beauty]
- Sunny Day [Beauty]
- Shock Wave [Cool]
The main purpose of the above moveset is to use the excellent Beauty combo Fire Punch and Ice Punch make with each other. Not only are they both Beauty moves with a very good appeal, but they both are part of the combo which means that they should be used every two rounds. Sunny Day is there in case you need it and combos with Fire Punch, while Shock Wave is there as a filler, just in case you wish to use it when placed first in the turn of appeals.
