General info

Type
Grass/Poison
Ability
Overgrow (Grass moves are multiplied by 1.5 when HP are below 1/3rd)
Base Stats
  • HP: 80
  • Attack: 82
  • Defense: 83
  • Special Attack: 100
  • Special Defense: 100
  • Speed: 80
Description

Venusaur has average and above stats, with Special Defense being surprisingly good. He could stand well as a Special Sweeper or as a Tank. He is able to learn a wide variety of moves which can make him really annoying. This moveset is not particularly suited against Steel types, due to their total resistance to Poison type moves and normal resistance to Grass type moves. You should also avoid Fire types. However, Venusaur could take a few hits from Fire based attacks before going down.

Role: Annoyer

Effort Points
129 HP, 129 Defense, 252 Special Defense
Moveset
  • Leech Seed
  • Toxic
  • Magical Leaf
  • Hidden Power Special/Attract
Strategy

The straightforward strategy would be Sunny Day + Solarbeam. This is overly used by most Grass types so I will suggest a moveset much more annoying… for your opponents Start off with a Toxic attack followed by Leech Seed. Always use Toxic first since your opponent will probably switch to get rid of Leech Seed. Magical Leaf is not powerful but is accurate and gets STAB, thus has a base damage of 90. The last move is a filler, probably a special type Hidden Power or if you wish to be more annoying try using Attract.

These are the moves Bulbasaur can learn through breeding with Pokémon of the Plant and/or Monster Egg Group, and the Pokémon it can get them from.

Training Grounds

This section is to advise you on the areas in which you can train for the acquisition of the Effort Points presented above. It is recommended you use 10 vitamins on the stat you desire to raise. Do not use vitamins on stats that require less than 100 Effort Points. Equip the Macho Brace on your Pokémon to speed up the process even more.

Contests

Item Held
Red/Blue Scarf
Contest Moveset
Magical Leaf [Beauty]
Growl [Cute]
Solarbeam [Cool]
Growth [Beauty]

This moveset is suited for either “Beauty” or “Cool” Contests. The basic concept is to get Solarbeam or Magical Leaf working after using Growth, since Growth makes a combo with both Magical Leaf and Solarbeam. Magical Leaf is also for occasions when you’ll be appealing first and Growl when last in the row. You can however replace Growth with Sunny Day which is also a Beauty type move and makes a combo with both Solarbeam and Magical Leaf, but the appeal points it gives away depend on the crowd’s excitement.

More precisely

  • If you appeal 1st:
    • Round 1: Magical Leaf
    • Round 2: Growth
    • Round 3: Solarbeam/Magical Leaf (prefer Magical Leaf if you are the 1st to appeal)
    • Round 4: Growth
    • Round 5: Solarbeam/Magical Leaf (prefer Magical Leaf if you are the 1st to appeal)
  • If you appeal 2nd or 3rd:
    • Round 1: Solarbeam/Magical Leaf (prefer Magical Leaf if you are the 1st to appeal)
  • If you appeal last:
    • Round 1: Growl
    • Round 2: Growth
    • Round 3: Solarbeam/Magical Leaf (prefer Magical Leaf if you are the 1st to appeal)
    • Round 4: Growth
    • Round 5: Solarbeam/Magical Leaf (prefer Magical Leaf if you are the 1st to appeal)

Stats & Training Guide, the Team Building Guide and the Egg Group Guide. More guides shall be added soon to help you out. If you have suggestions on additional movesets for either Battles or Contests, please post them in the Comments section. I will then evaluate them and probably add some of them, giving you credit.
