Role #1: Tank

Item Held
Leftovers (Recovers a small amount of Hit Points at the end of each round)
Nature
Bold (+Defense –Attack)/Calm (+Special Defense –Attack)
Effort Points
252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special Defense
Moveset
  • Cosmic Power
  • Rest
  • Thunder Wave
  • Psychic/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Flamethrower/ Hidden Power Special
Strategy

So, pump up by using Cosmic Power and then Rest which, along with Leftovers will keep you healthy and full of HP. Thunder Wave is there to annoy and stall in order to raise your Defenses while the last attack can be of any Special Types, mainly used to counter Hazers. Pick one wisely.

Role #2: Subpuncher

Item Held
Leftovers (Recovers a small amount of Hit Points at the end of each round)
Nature
Adamant (+Attack – Special Attack)
Effort Points
252 HP, 252 Attack, 6 Defense
Moveset
  • Substitute
  • Focus Punch
  • Return
  • Shadow Ball
Strategy

Commonly seen among Normal type Pokémon, the Substitute + Focus Punch combo is effective on Clefable as well, eventhough its Attack stat isn’t that impressive. Return is there for STAB, while Shadow Ball is simply there to counter Ghost types since the other moves will prove totally useless against them.

Role #3: Special Sweeper

Item Held
Salac Berry (raises Speed when HP are low)
Nature
Timid (+Speed –Attack)/Modest (+Special Attack –Attack)
Effort Points
252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moveset
  • Calm Mind
  • Cosmic Power/Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Water Pulse/Thunderbolt/Psychic
  • Cosmic Power/Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Water Pulse/Thunderbolt/Psychic
  • Cosmic Power/Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Water Pulse/Thunderbolt/Psychic
Strategy

Prefer Timid over Modest for this set. Then Calm Mind and sweep with one of the moves presented above. However watch out for any Fighting types or moves that may ruin your strategy. You might want to include Psychic in your set, just in case.

Training Grounds

This section is to advise you on the areas in which you can train for the acquisition of the Effort Points presented above. It is recommended you use 10 vitamins on the stat you desire to raise. Do not use vitamins on stats that require less than 100 Effort Points. Equip the Macho Brace on your Pokémon to speed up the process even more.

Contests

Item Held
Yellow Scarf
Contest Moveset 1
Pound [Tough]
Doubelslap [Tough]
Double-Edge [Tough]
Focus Punch [Tough]
Item Held
Pink Scarf
Contest Moveset 2
Belly Drum [Cute] / Follow Me [Cute]
Rest [Cute]
Charm [Cute]
Growl [Cute]

Cleffa family can take part in two types of Contests: Cute and Tough. For the Tough Contest, make use of Pound and Doubleslap which make a nice combo, or Focus Punch and then appeal with Double-Edge without occurring the risk of being jammed.

The Cute Contest moveset is meant to take advantage of the combos made by Belly Drum followed by Rest or Charm followed by Rest/Growl, depending on the situation. Growl can help you out when last in the appeal row while your may substitute Belly Drum with Follow Me which will “freeze” the crowd’s excitement for a while. It’s all up to you!

More precisely

  • If you appeal 1st, 2nd or 3rd:
    • Round 1: Pound/Focus Punch or Charm/Belly Drum
    • Round 2: Doubleslap/Double-Edge or Rest/Growl (depending on which position you are)
    • Round 3: Pound/Focus Punch or Charm/Belly Drum
    • Round 4: Doubleslap/Double-Edge or Rest/Growl (depending on which position you are)
    • Round 5: Pound or Charm/Belly Drum/Growl (do not use Growl in case you appealed with it during the previous round)
  • If you appeal 4th:
    • Round 1: Double-Edge or Growl
    • Round 2: Pound/Focus Punch or Charm/Belly Drum
    • Round 3: Doubleslap/Double-Edge or Rest/Growl (depending on which position you are)
    • Round 4: Pound/Focus Punch or Charm/Belly Drum
    • Round 5: Doubleslap/Double-Edge or Rest/Growl (depending on which position you are)
