Not really. I occasionally do. Like in Platinum, I had a really hard time catching Zapdos so when I finally caught it I named it Stubborn.
Oh, and another time on my Leafgreen when I caught Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, I named them Ice-Death, Zap-Death, and Burn-Death
Those are literally the only Pokemon I've ever nicknamed.

Xi is a letter in the Greek alphabet.
Pronounced zī or ksī. Xheye is Alcovich's spelling of the pronunciation zī. That's how many of us Americans would spell it.
Only those of us who are interested in Greek know how to actually spell it.
